Update..It's About to Get Serious.

I know my blog has become a bit overrun with fashion lately but, it was never my intention when starting this journey. I originally wanted this to solely be dedicated to food and health. So, what happened? Well, it all started with my Integrative Nutrition classes. I've always been a baker and had a slight obsession with food. Ok, maybe to the point where it was a bit outrageous! Any who, I ended up coming across IIN, where they teach you about not only diets (over 100 actually) and eating healthy for life, but also the importance of having balance in every aspect of your life. This includes relationships, spirituality, eating healthy, education, fitness, etc. If one of these is off-balance, it affects everything else. It can even change your entire outlook on life! Alas, I decided to make a blog about all of my newfound knowledge so that I could hopefully share the wealth and help people better themselves. Only it didn't happen like that. I felt like I wouldn't be able to share any of my tips because I didn't really have credibility nor did I have a full education on healthy living. Yet. The course I'm currently taking takes a year to complete, and is extremely fast-pasted. It's squeezing down two years worth of information into that year! Pure madness. Fortunately, they send you certification half-way through so students can start taking clients if they choose. I'm not sure if I'm ready for that responsibility right now but, I'm going to provide a link in one of the tabs at the top of my blog that will take you directly to my health coaching website, where you can fill out a health history form and get a FREE consultation by yours truly. :) If that doesn't interest you, then keep checking back for health tips and suggestions that will be posted weekly here on Do Good Feel Good. And don't worry, fashion won't be in short supply.

Thanks for stopping by!

Foodie Pen Pal

Hey Everyone! this past month, I was a "foodie pen pal"! Some of you may be asking yourselves what in the world is that?! Well it's pretty self explanatory really. You put together a box of your favorite goodies- all totaling $15.00- and send them to your assigned pen pal and you receive a box from someone else located in the U.S. It's super fun to gather stuff throughout the month! If you're interested in signing up to become a foodie pen pal or just get more information, click here!

My package came from West Virginia, so it wasn't too much of a voyage. Here are the things I got from my sender this month, Ashley. (Everything besides the honey is gone already!)

 Thanks Ashley!

Yes, I know everyone and their mother claims this whenever fall comes around, but I whole heartedly mean it. I love the leaves, the weather, Halloween, drinking warm apple cider..you get the idea. haha. So, in honor of this beautiful season, I'll be doing TONS autumn themed posts. Hope you're excited!

Here are a few photographs I took while in Jim Thorpe, PA last year. Enjoy!

Sippin' Time: Strawberry "Faux-jito"

Hey guys! Today I bring you a recent love of mine: the strawberry faux-jito! Now, I'm not a frequent drinker, but, when I do go out it's a requirement that the drink be fruity! That being said, a month or so ago, I went out with my sister, mom, friend, and her mom, to a great restaurant and they had strawberry basil mojitos! It was one of the best things I've ever had and left me craving more. Alas, one can't be drinking alcohol every day, right?! So, I decided to create a drink that captured the refreshing taste in a non-alcoholic way. Enjoy, and let me know if you give it a try!

-Krissy

Strawberry "Faux-jito"

INGREDIENTS:
Strawberries
Limes
Sugar (I use Truvia)
Seltzer Water
Water
Ice
Mint Leaves

DIRECTIONS:
For single serving: In the bottom of a glass, muddle 4-6 mint leaves, 2 spoonfuls of sugar, and 3 medium sized strawberries. Once muddled, squeeze in some fresh lime juice (I usually use 1/4 of the lime), add some ice. Finish off by filling the rest of the glass with some seltzer water and you're ready to enjoy your fresh fauxjito!

P.S. I just recently saw on Pinterest that Elle and Blair Fowler (from Youtube) also made a fake strawberry mojito recipe that can be found here!

Bake Time: Signature Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies

THIS, my friends, is my go-to recipe when I don't have a clue what to bake. I came up with this recipe back at the beginning of high school and I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like these. Even one of my high school gym teachers told me that I should market them! Hope you enjoy!

P.S. Considering this is my signature cookie, I'm leaving out some "secret" ingredients, but have no fear, it's only a few pinches of this and that :)

P.P.S. I'm in the process of making a healthier version of this recipe, too, so stay tuned!

-Krissy

Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup unsalted butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cardamom
3 cups rolled oats
1 1/3 cups dried cranberries

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and both sugars until fluffy. Slowly add eggs and vanilla to butter/sugar mixture. Combine all dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add butter/sugar mixture to dry ingredients and stir well until blended. Coat cranberries lightly in flour. Add to mixture. Drop mounded teaspoonfuls onto parchment covered baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let cool for a few minutes and enjoy!

SIDE NOTE: These cookies are sort of like snowflakes. No batch ever comes out looking like the other so don't worry if they look a bit different each time you make them! They'll still be just as delicious :)

Happy Mother's Day to all the great moms out there! Today my sister, Alyssa, my dad, and I went to church with my grandma like we usually do every Sunday. Then, we met my aunt, uncle, cousins, and mom back at my grandma's house for a delicious lunch that consisted of chicken, lasagna, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy (my favorite!), followed by rice pudding and brownies! Something tells me this week is going to have to be a clean eating week for me haha! My sister and I gave my mom a really pretty black and white printed mug paired with a case of her favorite Tazo tea. :) What'd you guys get your moms for Mother's Day? Let me know in the comments!

Feel Good: Review Time! BetterOats Oatmeal

Every week my sister and I go grocery shopping with each other. We like to view it as our "sisterly bonding" time where we can just hang out for a half hour and talk about one of our favorite things: FOOD! This week I came across something that I have never had before but my sister, Alyssa, has so naturally if she liked it, I figured I'd give it a shot. The verdict: LOVED THIS OATMEAL TO DEATH! I mean, sure it doesn't have those little candy dinosaur eggs in it but hey I'm 21 years old, I've got to grow up in some parts of my life right? Anywho, on with the review!

First off, they come in different types. Obviously I chose the Abundance line in the Apples & Cinnamon Flavor.  I'm sure you can tell the packaging is quite small for an oatmeal box, but don't fret, there are FIVE packages of oatmeal in there! The smaller box is actually so it fits better in your pantry AND it's 100% recyclable! Smart, right? Double DGFG points :)

Nutritional Facts: This stuff is completely natural--- it's made with 100% whole grain oats, dried apples, dried cranberries, brown rice, flaxseed, barley, quinoa, rye, and wheat.

So here's how you make it.
1. First, take out a package and tear off the top along the dotted line and pour the oatmeal into a microwavable bowl.

                                                        (See those fruit pieces? delicious!)

2. Next, fill the paper bag that the oatmeal came in with water up to the black line, dump it in the bowl, mix it, then pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes and your ready to eat! Of course if you're a sugar baby like me, you may need to add some sugar in the raw or stevia haha:) This stuff gets 5 stars from me!
